Dioctyl sebacate (abbreviated as DOS; CAS No.: 122-62-3; molecular formula: C₂₆H₅₀O₄) is a colorless to slightly yellow, transparent oily liquid at room temperature, characterized by light color and high purity. It is insoluble in water but soluble in most organic solvents, including alcohols, ketones, esters, hydrocarbons, and chlorinated hydrocarbons, exhibiting excellent compatibility and chemical stability.
The core advantages of DOS lie in its outstanding low-temperature performance and extremely low volatility, which can significantly reduce the glass transition temperature of polymers, imparting excellent low-temperature flexibility to finished products while maintaining good thermal stability and resistance to extraction. It is suitable for cold-resistant PVC cables, hoses, and other applications; in synthetic rubbers, it effectively enhances low-temperature flexural resilience; and, thanks to its superior lubricity, it can be used in aviation lubricants, specialty coatings, and packaging materials for non-direct-contact food applications, thereby extending the service life of these products under harsh environmental conditions.
